Happy Women’s Health Month!

Did you know May is Women's Health Month? It’s a time dedicated to raising awareness about the unique health needs of women and empowering women to take charge of their health. For that reason, Grow with Flow will be spending our month sharing resources and information on the many ways to look out for your physical, mental, and social well-being. We believe everybody deserves to feel well in themselves, and able to make choices for their own health. Take some time this month to reflect on ways you can advocate for your own health, and how you can help others do the same!

Here are some key things to think about during Women's Health Month:

  1. Reproductive Health: Reproductive health is a critical aspect of women's health. This includes regular gynecological exams, contraception, and management of menstrual irregularities. Women are recommended to visit their gynecologist (or general practitioner, depending where you live!) every year to discuss any concerns they have about their reproductive health.

  2. Breast Health: Breast cancer is a significant health concern for women, and regular breast exams are essential for early detection. Women should perform self-exams frequently, and schedule mammograms as recommended by their healthcare provider.

  3. Mental Health: Mental health is just as important as physical health. Women are more likely than men to experience depression and anxiety, and it is crucial to seek treatment if symptoms persist. Practicing self-care and stress-reducing activities, such as exercise and meditation, can also improve mental health.

  4. Nutrition and Exercise: A healthy diet and regular exercise are essential for maintaining overall health. Everyone should aim to eat a balanced diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein. Regular exercise can help prevent chronic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes. We recommend finding ways to get active that you enjoy!

  5. Preventive Care: Preventive care is essential for women's health. This includes regular check-ups, vaccinations, and cancer screenings. Women should discuss their individual risk factors with their healthcare provider and schedule appropriate screenings. We also recommend checking local guidelines for when you should receive preventative care!

Women's Health Month is an opportunity to prioritize and advocate for women's health — not just for yourself, but for mothers, sisters, aunties, and friends across the globe. By taking an active role in managing health needs, women can prevent disease, detect health issues early, and improve overall quality of life. Remember to schedule regular check-ups, maintain a healthy lifestyle, and prioritize self-care!

As always, our recommendations here are not intended as professional medical advice. Please seek out medical care if you have specific questions or concerns about your physical or mental health! If you need help finding a healthcare provider, there are many resources that can help:
